about
As the kickoff of Shaboom's 20-year anniversary remix package, Dave Aju leads this legendary band of minstrels on a mind-bending carnival procession through the world of Mecca Funk, on a journey to the dance floors of the great beyond. An adventure in sound that begins with mechanized b-boy inspired electro stepper breaks, combined with layers of sharply arped synths and deep bass topped off with winding soulful Moog style synth lead lines, tasteful dub delays and wild sound fx - as if Kraftwerk and Eddy Grant went on an acid safari and ended up at Roxy's roller rink on a Sunday eve.
About a third of the way into the track Paul Birchall's Piano starts to delicately explore the terrain jamming against the original vocal adlibs as the beats subside and the midway break down builds up into a warm crescendo with the synth filters fully ablaze tearing this joint wide open. Ian Kirkham's mystical electric wind instrument teases the original theme from short bursts of color eventually flowing into the full blown melody which brings the track down into its well-journeyed resting place, accompanied by Lee Shallcrosss (Section 25) Percussion, Mark Bell's Bootsy-inspired live bass lines and a posse sing-a-long closer with Mr. Dave Aju himself. Set the controls for the heart of the fun in the sun!
